Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert from?

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. Support depends on your browser, and every current browser reads all four.

Will transparency survive?

Yes when converting to PNG, WebP or AVIF. JPG and BMP have no transparency, so those areas become white.

Is AVIF always available?

AVIF saving needs a browser that can write AVIF. If yours cannot, the AVIF option is greyed out and you can pick WebP instead.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG or BMP is lossless. JPG, WebP and AVIF re-compress the picture, so use a high quality setting for important images.

Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

Not yet — browsers cannot read HEIC. Set your iPhone camera to 'Most Compatible' to capture JPG instead.
